Hiking exploration in the Pays de Laval

We suggest you combine discovery of Laval’s heritage with the pleasure of hiking alongside the River Mayenne.

Programme Day 1

Group arrives at the hotel in the early afternoon.
Hotel check-in.

  • Guided and commented exploration of the Historic centre of Laval with a guide.
  • Guided and commented tour of the Jardin de la Perrine.
  • Group boarding on the passenger boat "Le Vallis Guidonis" for a cruise dinner.
  • Commented river tour.

Return to the hotel around 11 pm.

Programme Day 2

  • Departure for the hike along the towpath to Entrammes, formerly known as Inter-Amnes (between the waters). The length of the hike can be adjusted at your request.
  • Guided and commented tour of the Port of Salut Abbey, the "Historic" place where the famous cheese is made. Monastic life and organisation will be presented during the tour.
  • Lunch in one of the town’s restaurants around 12:30 p.m.
  • Guided and commented tour of the Gallo-Roman Baths. These are the oldest traces of civilisation in the Pays de Laval and are in a remarkable state of conservation.

End of the programme and group departure around 4.30 p.m.

Programme Day 1

  • Evron Basilica. Guided and commented tour of Evron Basilica. Notre-Dame de l’Épine Basilica has come through time and the ages and is a significant building in Evron’s heritage.
  • Brasserie La Suzannaise in Sainte-Suzanne. Tour of the brewery with explanations on making beer followed by a tasting.
  • Lunch in Sainte-Suzanne.
  • Medieval town of Sainte-Suzanne. Tour of the medieval town: learn about the history and architecture of Sainte-Suzanne.
  • Moulin de Thévalles in Cheméré le Roi. Guided and commented tour of the watermill in Thévalles (classified site) including operation of the mill and history of the setting.
  • Return to Laval with dinner at the hotel. 2-Star Hotel in Laval. Hotel check-in, night and breakfast.

Programme Day 2

  • Fromagerie bio from Maine in Entrammes. Presentation of the cheese milk cooperative by film, followed by view of the production process through a glass screen and tasting.
  • Parné-sur-Roc. Discover the bucolic charm of this village, its medieval bridge which spans the Ouette, the picturesque houses, the Romanesque church, 12th-century porch-bell tower and the impressive lime kilns. Guided tour of the Petite Cité de Caractère.
  • Lunch in a village of the area.
  • Saint-Denis d’Anjou village. Guided tour of the charming medieval village of Saint-Denis-d’Anjou that has maintained its narrow streets and stately houses from the 15th and 16th centuries (followed by sampling of local apple juice).
