The day before departure, motorised riders are welcomed directly at Château de Bourgon, located in Montourtier (53150). For others, a free transfer is provided from Laval SNCF station.
You then take possession of your room in this 15th-century château, remarkable for its three-arched bridge spanning former moats that have now dried up. In the evening, a table d’hôtes dinner is offered with the owners, the perfect opportunity to get to know each other and share your first riding anecdotes.
After breakfast at around 8:30 am, each participant will be given his or her horse.
At 10:00 am, departure from the château for a 20 km ride through the peaceful Mayenne countryside, alternating between forest paths, sunken lanes and minor roads.
Lunch, in the form of a picnic prepared by our steward, precedes a visit to the archaeological site of Jublains, an ancient Gallo-Roman town. In the late afternoon, return on horseback to Château de Bourgon, where you will be invited to a candlelit dinner, preceded by a private tour of the château in the company of its passionate owners.
This is the perfect way to discover the region’s ancient history.
After breakfast at around 8:30 am, we saddle up for a long, beautiful 35 km ride to Sainte-Suzanne, a medieval town listed as one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in France” and with the “Petite Cité de Caractère” label. Throughout this day on horseback, we ride through a peaceful countryside of deep woods, country lanes and quiet country roads, revealing the discreet charms of the Mayenne countryside.
At mid-day, a cold lunch prepared by our steward offers a welcome moment of rest.
After breakfast at around 8.30 am, we leave the Moulin des Forges for a final loop of around 20 km on horseback.
The landscapes become undulating and wooded, with sunken paths winding through unspoilt nature, offering a walk that is as soothing as it is spectacular.
The magic happens as we approach Sainte-Suzanne, a perched medieval gem, listed as one of “France’s most beautiful villages”.
At around 12:30 pm, we stop for lunch at the restaurant in the very heart of the village, savouring local, family-style cuisine in an authentic setting.
The afternoon continues with a guided tour of the town, led by a passionate lecturer who immerses us in the stories and legends of this soul-filled place.
Return to the Moulin des Forges at around 4pm for a final moment of sharing among riders before departing.
A transfer to Laval SNCF station is provided for non-motorised riders.
