With Philippe Favre, owner of the Moullins aula, discover the evolution of the residences of the high aristocracy in France, England and Wales.
This lecture will attempt a comparative study of the evolution of the residences of the high aristocracy in France, England and Wales. There will be a rapid analysis of the historical context in the tenth and eleventh centuries: in West Francia with the emergence of principalities, and in England where power became centralized and then territorialized again, which influenced this type of architecture. The presentation is limited to essentially residential complexes. Particular attention will be paid to the aula, a space of domination. Numerous residences on both sides of the Channel will be presented very briefly, in order to highlight the differences between their respective development.
