La vélo Francette®

Named the Vélo Francette, this cycle route stretches over 630 kilometres between the D-Day beaches in Calvados and the port of La Rochelle in Charente-Maritime.

In the Mayenne department, the Vélo Francette includes a truly spectacular section: 105 kilometres of a route combining minimal elevation gain with maximum safety, following the towpath along the River Mayenne.

A real child’s play—requiring just a little patience and perseverance.

Please note

The towpath used by the Vélo Francette is not paved. It is recommended to ride a hybrid bike or a mountain bike rather than a city bike or a road bike.

If you are travelling with children, choose stages of less than 40 km. Wearing a helmet is compulsory up to the age of 12 and strongly recommended for adults. Be mindful of the river and of oncoming users. For younger children, a bike trailer or a towed bike with a towing bar are very practical options.

Throughout the route, clear and easy-to-follow signage indicates the distance remaining to your destination.

If you plan to return to your starting point by train, there is only one railway station on the Mayenne section, in Laval; otherwise, you will need to cycle on to Angers.

The Accueil Vélo label guarantees a warm welcome and quality services along cycling routes for touring cyclists.
