In 1452, Persigand was the site of a "causeway with a mill and fishery". After 1537, it was equipped with a marinière gate. By 1829, there were no mills. The canalisation of the Mayenne led to its destruction. It was replaced by a lock dam, the plan for which, drawn up by the Ponts et Chaussées engineer Du Jardin, was approved by the minister on 4 April 1865. The work, which had been postponed during the 1870-1871 war, began after being awarded for the second time on 15 July 1872...
