The grounds of Craon Castle – 47 hectares of nature and heritage
Surrounding Craon Castle lies an exceptional 47-hectare park, a veritable haven of greenery where gardens, nature and heritage come together. Open daily from 1 April to 1 November, it invites you to take the time to stroll, explore and enjoy a well-preserved setting with your family.
The remarkable French-style garden, with its sweeping vistas and elegant geometry, offers a particularly Instagram-worthy backdrop for lovers of gardens and photography. As you stroll through the grounds, you’ll also discover the large walled kitchen garden, the wash house, the ice house and the chapel – all testaments to life in days gone by within the estate.
The park is particularly well-suited to family outings and activities with children. A treasure hunt allows young visitors to explore the estate in a fun way, whilst a playground is reserved just for them. It’s also possible to have a picnic in the park to make the most of a day in the great outdoors.
With its vast open spaces, gardens and heritage, the grounds of the Château de Craon are a wonderful choice for a family day out in Mayenne, a holiday activity or a nature and heritage getaway in the Pays de la Loire region. Car park is free and pets are welcome, so the whole family can enjoy the visit.
There’s no need to rush here: you can explore the park at your own pace, taking in the views, gardens and natural surroundings, all whilst soaking up the laid-back atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot for a stroll, a picnic, an outing with the children or simply to enjoy one of the most beautiful heritage settings in western France.
