Four classes, ranging from primary school to sixth form, have embarked on a documentary, critical and artistic project to explore changes to the landscape around their school and share their perspective through photography. Take a look at their work!
The landscape is a living cultural heritage, reflecting the identity and diversity of different regions. Its study, at the crossroads of numerous disciplines (geography, history, urban planning, ecology, etc.), lends itself to an interdisciplinary approach.
This project aims to engage pupils in a documentary, critical and artistic process: how do I view the place where I live? Within this framework, each pupil is invited to examine how their school fits into its surroundings, the changing landscape around them, and to share their perspective through photography.
The Mayenne Departmental Archives are presented here as a space for dialogue between images of the past preserved in its collections and the creative process, where pupils document and contribute to shaping the collective memory of their local area.
All of these works were produced by four classes, ranging from primary school to sixth form: pupils in Years 4 and 5 at the Jacques Prévert Primary School, Year 8 pupils at the Jules Renard Secondary School, and finally Year 13 pupils at the Pierre and Marie Curie Sixth Form College. Pupils and teachers were also supported throughout the year by the photographer Arnaud ROINÉ.
