Quentin Sauvé + Dressed Like Boys

Nothing could better sum up the passionate, almost addictive bond that Quentin Sauvé shares with music. Having fallen in love with it at a very young age – he played in his first band when he was barely 10 – the Laval native has never ceased to feel this vital, cathartic need to express through music what words cannot convey. Dressed Like Boys Singer and frontman of DIRK., now pursuing a solo project, Jelle Denturck sees himself as a deeply sensitive soul, with musical influences ranging from pop to melancholic indie rock: Bowie, the Beatles, Lou Reed, Elton John, Nina Simone, Anohni & The Johnsons, Sufjan Stevens, Perfume Genius, Wilco, Tobias Tesso Jr. … With *Dressed Like Boys*, he wanted to write songs and create a thoroughly personal album. Not to make it a self-centred project, but rather as a form of introspection. Denturck sings of the quest for personal freedom, talks about his closest friends, his homosexuality and his relationship, but also tackles uncomfortable subjects such as homophobic attacks. The influence of his record collection is unmistakable, and the sound of *Dressed Like Boys* is largely reminiscent of the 1970s, allowing Denturck to turn down the volume and offer an intimate glimpse into his life and journey.
