For their 43rd edition on 19 and 21 September 2026, the unmissable European Heritage Days will focus on the themes ‘Photographic Heritage’ and ‘Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine’.

This is the perfect opportunity to (re)discover the cultural and historical treasures of Laval and the surrounding area: guided tours, special site openings, events and fascinating encounters await you throughout the weekend.

A tour of the Video Studio, guardian of our audiovisual heritage

Established in 1981 by the City of Laval, this studio preserves a treasure trove of footage chronicling the city’s development since the 1920s. Come and take a behind-the-scenes look at the technical evolution of film production and enjoy a private screening of these audiovisual archives.

La Roche Cave: a prehistoric heritage site worth preserving

This cave was once inhabited by prehistoric humans and animals. During this tour, you’ll explore a cave that was inhabited by prehistoric humans around 25,000 years ago. You’ll be able to see the site of an ancient hearth, a rock engraving and the bones of prehistoric animals. The geological context will also be explained to you.

Opened in autumn 2022 within the walls of an Art Deco-style building that once housed Crédit Foncier, the Quarante stands out as an exemplary project combining architectural innovation with heritage enhancement. Come and take a look behind the scenes on a guided tour.

From barracks to community centre: the secrets behind a transformation

After the 1870 war, the Schneider barracks were home to the 101st Infantry Regiment. The Army has since vacated the premises, which have been repurposed as the Community Centre, where a contemporary extension now complements the original buildings. Come and discover this transformation on a guided tour.
